SLEEPING
When you’re tired, you probably lie down in a nice comfortable bed and go to sleep. If you have a dog or cat they might like to join you. But other animals have different places and ways to sleep.
Giraffes sleep standing up. Their knees lock so that they don’t fall over. Sometimes giraffes put their heads against trees when they rest, but usually they just hang their heads down low.
An orangutan is a member of the monkey family. When an orangutan is tired, it climbs a tree. The tree is often more than 12 metres tall. The orangutan holds onto the branches with both its hands. Even though it’s sleeping, the orangutan holds the branches very tightly and never falls off its tree bed.
Brown seals go to the bottom of the sea when they’re tired. The problem with that is that seals have to breathe air. While they’re at the bottom of the sea they don’t breathe. After 20 minutes, while it is still sleeping, the seal rises to the top of the water and breathes deeply several times. Then it goes down to the bottom again. The whole night the seal goes up and down but never wakes up.

Pen Friends
Pen-friends are people who live far apart and get to know one another from letters. When you write to people in other countries, you feel that you are visiting them. And you don’t even have to leave your house.
There are a lot of pen-friend clubs all over the world. They usually ask you to write them a letter. In that letter you tell them about yourself: your age, your hobbies and your special interests. You can also say which languages you know and what countries you want to write letters to. Then the clubs send you the name and address of a pen-friend.
If you want to collect stamps, writing to pen-friends around the world is a good way to get started. It is interesting and fun to learn about people all over the world.
Liat read about pen-friends in a magazine. She wrote the pen-friend club a letter about herself. In the letter she wrote, “I am 13 years old. My hobbies are dancing and collecting stamps. I am very interested in pop music and rock stars. I know Hebrew, Arabic and English. I want to write to kids in England or the United States because I want to practise English.”
Two children in the United States and one in England sent Liat letters. As soon as she gets a letter, she sends one back. She gets a lot of beautiful stamps and enjoys learning about her new friends.
